Love it when the auto folks get riled up about reallocation to resources – no where so much as the debate over cars / bikes/ buses – seeing as the pendulum has been on the auto-dominated side for so long. As NPR mentions: “Cities and cars share a conflicted relationship these days. Environmental concerns, growing traffic congestion and an urban design philosophy that favors foot traffic are driving many cities to try to reduce the number of cars on the road. In cities such as Seattle, Chicago, Toronto and Boston, some people go so far as to claim there is a “war on cars.” No surprise groups like the AAA are at the forefront of some of this rhetoric.
Tired argument. It’s not about one groups rights, it’s about choices for everyone. There will still be cars to drive in, truck for deliveries, and buses, streetcars and trains for mass transit – and a lot more bike lanes to ensure folks have lots of opportunities, whatever their inclination or ability.
Plenty of room for everyone from the look of it. Deal with it. Listen for yourself here.
